The electric motor

July 31, 2016

On the picture you see my new electric motor. It is never used. The model is AC-50. And the controller is a Curtis controller. Together it is capable of producing 71 horsepower and 120 ft-lbs. of torque. For a 1,400 kg car that should be just enough power.

My first car

The photo above is the car before conversion. It is a 2001 Mazda Tribute and I own it since 2005. The car has been with us cruising to see many parts of Australia. Now I decided it needs to be converted to do only short distance shopping and casual rides.

The fuel consumption before conversion was fairly high. It has a V6 engines and consumption is about 1 liter for 5 km (20l/100km). The maintenance cost was also increasing every year. Most maintenance and repairs are for the engine/fuel/cooling related parts. So I like to get rid of such consumption and maintenance cost. But does it also make sense to extend the live of this car? Does converting to a full electric make sense? Well I hope so, I am going to try it.

Milage During the project

150K is not much for a V6 that I am trowing out. The car should be able to drive another 100K easily. It has good wheels, steering, suspension and shortly a brand new motor!
